Product Development Engineer (Rail) – posted 13th May 2026

Could you be our Subject Matter Expert for Petards Rail’s eyeTrain Safety Systems?

Petards Rail are recruiting for the role of Product Development Engineer.  We’re looking for someone who has broad technical knowledge, experience in a technical support role, is commercially astute, customer driven and well practised in delivering targets. It would be great if you have a background within the rail technology sector although this is not essential.

Some of the key things that you will be doing:  

  • Acting as our Subject Matter Expert for core Rail eyeTrain Safety Systems (GEN6, GENT+, GENT)
  • Providing technical input to new tenders, quotes and proposals.
  • Providing technical input to Petards’ Technology Centre roadmap
  • Delivering product specific requirements to deliver a Return on Investment.
  • Technical support to resolve system, hardware and software problems.
  • Ensuring products maintain regulatory compliance in particular Safety Integrity Level compliance.
  • Producing & maintaining technical reports, system schematics and product datasheets.
  • Ensuring methods & test specifications are maintained and controlled for production release to ensure OTD by production.
  • Ensuring products remain compliant with current and evolving cyber legislation and standards.

Project Engineer (Defence) – posted 21st April 2026

Are you ready to take your engineering career to the next level?

Petards are looking for a curious, methodical, and determined engineering professional to join our Defence business as a Project Engineer.

We are looking for someone who understands the UK Defence & Security sector or can apply their knowledge and experience gained within a relatable sector such as Oil & Gas, Renewables, Rail, Military, Policing, etc.

The role plays a key part in delivering technical services at customer sites and Petards’ Defence factory, in the design, production and in-service support of new-build modern and legacy products.

Some of the key things that you will be doing:  

  • Provide in-service support of legacy products, managing obsolescence, offering Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) and processing engineering change for products.
  • Solve a range of technical problems, in hands-on and desktop-based technical work packages.
  • Deliver repair services to customer defence equipment.
  • Engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including “down the supply chain” external contacts and “up the supply chain” customers.
  • Confidently and clearly communicate on technical matters and recommendations for the business.
