Petards was awarded a Contract for the Aurora Refresh programme by Bombardier Transport. The contract, worth £1.3 million is for the supply of Petards eyeTrain systems to be fitted to BOMBARDIER ELECTROSTARTM Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) trains as part of an upgrade programme with train owner Porterbrook and train operator Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR).
The upgrade will further enhance the ELECTROSTAR’S video and data collection capability through the addition of the Petards eyeTrain Forward Facing CCTV, Track Debris/Third Rail Camera and Digital Video Recording (DVR) systems.

The footage taken by the digital eyeTrain ruggedised forward facing cameras used to investigate operational incidents, including:
- Signal Passed at Danger (SPADs)
- Suicides and other fatalities
- Near misses (workforce)
- Trespass, graffiti, stone throwing
- Vegetation surveys
- Trackside litter
- Equipment and materials left by the track
- Confirmation of track works
- Confirmation of the signal position that the driver has observed.
Track Debris Camera
Reduce stoppage time with instantly accessible video footage.
Stoppage time is minimised by immediately and securely playing footage to on board monitors, a connected laptop or transmitted to a central control centre via eyeBOS or third party services, allowing swift decisions to be made.
The digital eyeTrain ruggedised track debris camera allows you to perform close inspection of the approaching track during the investigation and analysis of operational incidents, accidents and near misses. Footage may be securely replayed immediately to
allow swift decisions and reduce stoppage time.
The collected data from both systems can be accessed and reviewed by third parties such as the Transport Police, Network Rail, Her Majesty’s Railway Inspectorate (HMRI) or other stakeholders.
